The regional conference will be held at Reading University on Saturday and Sunday, 20 and 21 November 2021. The main business of the conference is to elect members of Regional Executive Committee. The regional Executive Committee meets on a quarterly basis to discuss the work of the Labour Party in the region and provide leadership and guidance to the region. CLPs are entitled to send delegates to the conference, to nominate people for election to the Regional Executive Committee and to submit one conference motion. The deadline for all three matters is 15 October 2021, which means that we have to finalise our submissions to Region at the next CLP General Committee on 7 October.
Delegates to Conference
At our CLP’s General Committee Meeting, held on 2 September 2021, it was agreed that members be invited to self-nominate as delegates to the conference, with a view to our CLP sending two delegates. Delegates must be gender balanced. All fees and other relevant expenditure will be met by the CLP. Please note that attendance as a delegate to the conference will involve an overnight hotel stay on 20 November. If you wish to become a delegate to the conference, please submit your self-nomination to me at secretary@kemptownlabour.org by 23.59hrs, 22 September 2021 at the latest.
Nominations to the Regional Executive Committee
Every CLP may nominate two people as county representatives and two people as region wide representatives as candidates for election to serve on the Regional Executive Committee. Nominations must be gender balanced. Validly nominated members will be asked to supply a 200-word election statement and a photograph. Once the deadline has passed the photographs and statements are distributed electronically to the delegates attending the Regional Conference who will elect representatives. If you wish to put your name forward as a nominee for either the county or region wide positions, please email me at secretary@kemptownlabour.org.uk by 23.59hrs, 22 September 2021 at the latest. Alternatively, if you would like more information, please email me or phone me on 07853622456 as soon as you can.
Elections to the Equalities Section also take place at the Regional Conference. There is one representative for each of the following – Youth, Disability, BAME, Women, and LGBT+. These positions are by self-nomination. The Labour Party operates a self-identification policy, and members submit a form directly to the party. If you wish to self-nominate, please complete the attached form – “REC Equalities section” – and send it to the address at the bottom of the form. The deadline for self-nominations is 15 October.
Conference Motions
CLPs may submit one motion to the Regional Conference. If passed at the conference, motions are fed into the national policy making process via the National Policy Forum. Motions should address only one topic, be no longer than 250 words, focus on party policy, and be relevant to the South East region. If you wish to submit a motion for consideration, please send it to me at secretary@kemptownlabour.org.uk by 23.59hrs, 22 September 2021 at the latest .
